Dumpster Day Returns

Thanks to a program through the City of Fort Wayne, neighborhood residents will again have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted solid waste materials at no cost to homeowners or the neighborhood association.

WHEN
Saturday, June 13, 2020
8:00 am – 12:00 pm

WHERE
The dumpster will be placed on Kimmel Drive (the short street that connects the east sides of W. Foster and Sheridan).

HOW IT WORKS
Simply gather any unwanted trash (see list below for unacceptable materials) and drop it in the dumpster during the hours noted above.

Please do not overfill the dumpster. It will not be picked up if improperly filled. Container space will be available on a first come, first served basis so plan accordingly if you wish to participate. Last year we easily filled the dumpster within the allotted time.

The following materials CAN NOT be placed in the container:
Anti-freeze
Fire Extinguishers
Concrete
Auto Parts
Oil Based Paint
Pesticides
Radioactive Materials
Tires
Asphalt
Freon Refrigerant
Liquids
Closed Containers
Lead Acid Batteries
Fertilizers
Chemicals
Used Oil
Auto Fluids
Hazardous Waste
Explosives
Compressed Gas
Special Waste
Appliances with Freon
Fluorescent Bulbs
Leaves
Electronics
Items Containing Mercury
Herbicides
Note: Latex paint cans need to be dried out before placing in the dumpster. They cannot accept paint in liquid form because they may leak out onto the ground or street.

For more information about disposing of items and materials not permitted in the dumpster, please visit the Allen County Department of Environmental Management website: www.acwastewatcher.org.

Annual Membership Meeting Postponed

The annual membership meeting for the Historic Foster Park Neighborhood Association (originally scheduled for May 20th) has been postponed until a later date. This decision was made due to size limitations for group gatherings, meeting space restrictions, and the desire to ensure residents can feel more comfortable attending an association function.

We are looking at alternative dates in the month of June. Please stay tuned for a future announcement with full details including the new meeting date, time, location, and applicable social distancing measures.

Spring 2020 Newsletter

The Spring 2020 Neighborhood Newsletter was mailed out to residents this past weekend. You can also access the digital version here.

Make sure to check it out for a variety of updates and resources!

As a friendly reminder, residents can still pay their $30.00 annual association dues. Visit www.fosterpark.org/dues to learn more. Thanks to the 53% of households who already paid dues for the 2019-2020 fiscal year!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Neighbors,

In light of the recent events surrounding COVID-19, it is important that we look out for each other as friends and neighbors. Families may face a variety of disruptions over the coming weeks related to childcare, work, etc.

If you find yourself in need of assistance over the next few weeks or have questions about available resources in the community, please feel free to contact the Foster Park Neighborhood Association at fosterparkneighborhood@gmail.com. We will do our best to connect residents in need with organizations and/or neighbors willing and able to help.

Especially if you are at higher risk due to age, health, and/or occupation, please know that you have neighbors who can lend a hand. Whether you need someone to pick up some groceries, run errands, or whatever else, feel free to reach out.

As we navigate these uncharted waters together, let’s use our actions to remind ourselves why this is such a wonderful neighborhood to live.

Great American Cleanup 2020

The Foster Park Neighborhood is organizing a group of volunteers to participate in this year’s Great American Cleanup on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

This is a fun, all-ages opportunity to hang out with friends and neighbors while beautifying the community. We had a great time with last year’s event and hope to grow the size of our volunteer group.

We will plan to clean up nearby Indian Village Park (Bluffton Road across from The Clyde) and the surrounding area from 9am-11am on Saturday, May 2nd.

The City provides garbage bags, gloves, and t-shirts for all volunteers who sign up in advance. Please REGISTER ONLINE no later than Wednesday, March 25th to guarantee a t-shirt.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Thanks in advance to all willing and able to chip in a few volunteer hours to support the community!

New Banners Installed

Have you seen the new light pole banners throughout the Foster Park Neighborhood boundaries?

The installation of fifteen new decorative light pole banners was recently completed. The banners feature the new association logo paired with an assortment of images originally taken at Foster Park. Special thanks to association secretary Greg Lass for developing the logo and artwork for the banners! Thanks also to board member Lynn Fuston for taking photos for the banner artwork!

This project was funded through association general funds (41% of total project cost) and through a competitive grant awarded through the City of Fort Wayne’s Neighborhood Improvement Grant program (59% of total project cost).

Winter 2019 Newsletter

The Winter 2019 edition of the Foster Park Neighborhood Newsletter was recently mailed out to all FPNA households. A digital version of the newsletter is also available at this link and posted with other past newsletters on the Association page.

The newsletter includes valuable news and information about the great things happening in our community.

If you have not done so, please also submit your annual membership dues either online or by check. More information at the Dues page. Thanks for your support!

Community survey | SWAP funding

The Fort Wayne Mayor and City Council agreed to allocate $500,000 to each of the city’s four area partnerships to invest throughout their respective quadrants. The goal of this program, known as Investing in Neighborhoods Now (INN), is to provide long-term benefits to everyone in our community.

The Southwest Area Partnership (SWAP) wants to hear from residents about the types of investments they most wish to see.

Please take a few minutes to complete the online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/26JYHFB
The deadline to submit your response is Friday, December 6, 2019.

The survey results will be used by the INN Steering Committee (a group of neighborhood leaders from SWAP) to guide future investments.

Thanks in advance for sharing your feedback!
